Devlog 3 Finished Prototype

Dev-vlog3: Finished Prototype

This week was dedicated to finish all of the paperwork. Paperwork consists of Technical Document, Game Design Model and the ArtBible.

Art

We finished the ArtBible during this week. Our main character’s look is decided. As for the colors of the character; each player will get a different color from each other. Also the colors will be more saturated than the background which will make it visible. From a top down view the character will look like a triangle shape which you can see from the image below. Robots will also receive a laser color according to their own colors (ex: red robot red laser).

As for the composition at our level, it will consist of dynamic(asymmetric) composition. Our western shop will be placed at the back layer of the screen. The arena will be surrounded with wooden fences. Camera will be too down view. We will use the Unity cine-machine plugin to achieve this. Also if a bullet gets close to the robot it will zoom in to create a strained moment.

The atmosphere in our game will have desert vibes. Time of the day will be noon which will also fit the theme of the game. We will try to light our game with a directional light. We will also use spot light but if it is really necessary to use. Due to optimization reasons we will try to avoid using point lights because as everyone knows they are heavy.

Shader Prototype

Simple Toon shader without black outlines, highlight and shadow do not deviate from the initial color too much so it is still readable.

Final Prototype

To finish up our first sprint, some hat icons have been added to the corners of the game these show the lives of the players allowing you to actually play the game and win :)

There are also crates that drop from parachutes in the levels. Whenever you shoot them it gives the player a random power-up.

Such power-ups include:

  • Giving the player extra speed for a while
  • Giving the player an extra life
  • Creating an explosion that destroys bullets
  • Creating an explosion that reverses the bullet's direction
  • Switching player positions

Our whole team is very excited to get all the horrible prototype code and files, and throw them all away! We are ready to properly integrate all the features we tested. We can't wait to share more information with you people in the future!

Future Plans

For the upcoming week, the plans that we will try to accomplish are listed below.
